Dani has been working with the Society since fall 2019. She has been an advocate for improving mental health services and supports since 1996. Dani’s passion and commitment to this work evolved from her personal experience supporting family members and friends with serious mental illnesses, along with her own lived experience with anxiety and depression. Over the years Dani has been a family representative for mental health on numerous committees at the IWK and the NS Health Mental Health and Addictions Program. She received an Inspiring Lives Award from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia and a MICA Award from the Department of Health and Wellness for her contributions. Dani has also served on the Board of Directors of the Healthy Minds Cooperative and the Schizophrenia Society (SSNS) of Nova Scotia. She has 15 years’ experience facilitating family support and education groups through Laing House, SSNS, and NS Health Mental Health and Addictions. In 2012 and 2013 Dani completed training with the Meriden Family Programme in the UK as a facilitator and trainer for the Families Matter in Mental Health program and has been facilitating groups and training facilitators since that time.
